Projections for October 12: APA Awards Winners Night

Join 2022 APA Awards winners Sam Grant, Samantha Wolov,  Sam Zauscher as they present their work

October 12, 2022

4pm PT, 6 pm CT, 7 pm ET

Sam Grant

Sam Grant is an award-winning internationally published photographer and director based in Los Angeles. Having lived in Brazil, Canada and Australia, Sam is no stranger to the road and has found success working with a diverse range of clients, from small brands to global advertising agencies, in various places around the globe. His love for people and art is evident throughout his work and continues to drive his curiosity and desire to create compelling images.

Samantha Wolov (2022 APA Awards Best of Show Winner)

I’m a self-taught photographer with a background in [feminist, modern] art history and studio art. I learned about lighting, composition, color theory, and perhaps most importantly, texture from painters, not other photographers. I have a sensory processing sensitivity that, among other things, causes my senses to intensify and overlap – I can’t isolate any one particular sensation. I’ve found that it has inadvertently crept into my work to the point that I am incapable of creating purely visual images; they become multi-sensory experiences, like imagining the feeling of the air or sensing the temperature. I’m a native East Coaster, but I’ve lived in San Francisco since 2006.

Samantha Zauscher (APA Awards winner, Architecture and Corporate/Industrial categories)

Samantha Zauscher is an award-winning commercial and editorial photographer specializing in work that transports you. Based in San Diego and Los Angeles, she travels often. Sam is a former professional ballerina, a San Diego native, and the second oldest of six. She makes a mean salad and loves tacos, creating aesthetic experiences, solo travel, hotel lobbies, her husband and kid, the smell of paper, editorial design, and sweet collaboration.

Virtual Projections Ukraine: Witnessing War

It’s starting, interest is waning in the Ukraine / Putin war – we cannot allow this. Join us next week for five consecutive nights as PROJECTIONS continues to showcase the incredible tenacity of the Ukrainian people as top wartime photojournalists report from Ukraine.

These photographers: Sasha Maslov, Alex Lourie, Heathcliff O’Malley, Heidi Levine, Marcus Yam and Salwan Georges and their contemporaries are our eyes to this brutal conflict. All of them are modern day heroes as they report from Ukraine, exhibiting their own immeasurable courage.

This will be our fourth week of showcasing the war crimes that this animal Putin and his army are perpetrating on the Ukraine people. There is a place reserved in hell for this monster. These presentations will serve as documented evidence of the pain and suffering his army has inflicted on the civilian population. Here is our schedule at the moment (subjected to change and additions) for the week of August 8th:

Monday, August 8 th – Sasha Maslov
Tuesday, August 9 th – Alex Lourie
Wednesday, August 10 th Heathcliff O’Malley
Thursday, August 11 th – Heidi Levine & Salwan Georges
Friday, August 12 th – Marcus Yam

We present via Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/6692503751 presentations start at 7:00pm We're dedicating these solo presentations to the hero photojournalists and Ukrainians citizens we've lost. We ask everyone to support this struggle in whatever way they feel comfortable, in voice and deed.

All presentations will be recorded and can be seen when you subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/PROJECTIONSNYC We thank our sponsors for their continuing support: Epson, Pro Photo Daily, AI-AP, PhotoShelter and Archive Magazine.
